Remotely happily ever after: Tips to fully ENJOY remote working!
Remote working, personally, we think it is one of the few positive things that the COVID epidemic has brought us. It seems that companies finally have realized that their workers are the most motivated if they receive some sort of remote freedom!
Well, we couldn't agree more! For us, remote working is the way to stay motivated, creative, but also to follow our dreams and live our best lives. Because, let's be honest, a good career is important, yes, but there is more to life right? For us, traveling the world while working is something we have always dreamed about. And we are doing this right now!
Of course, this new way of working also comes with some new challenges. Let's look at these challenges and let's shine our light on how to tackle them!
Freedom VS. Hard to maintain self-discipline:
Freedom and independence are amazing, but can also bring chaos. How do you deal with this sudden freedom and still manage to get things done? You need to be strict to yourself to get things done, and there is no one watching you to do so. Make sure you bring structure to your workday, because there are no others to do this for you. Create a routine and follow this routine. Only then you can enjoy and work productive remotely! To-do lists, timesheets, finances, maybe these tasks are not the most fun, but they are so important to stay organized and get things done! 15 minutes a day, and you will thank yourself later! Apps that are great to bring some routine in your life are Evernote, Toggle track and Bynder.
Communicate whenever you want VS. Missing out on communication
Communication in companies is normally done over email or just face-to-face. Working remotely has made most of this digital. Where meetings are happening over video and over special communication tools. Apps that are amazing for communication are Slack, Trello and Notion. Notion is our favorite! It is a great way to keep your communication structured and gives you an easy overview of your new messages. Our favorite applications for video calls are Zoom and Google meet. These tools help you to be in control over the communication flow.
Work whenever you want VS. Never stop working
It is hard to escape from work if you work and chill in the same room. We highly recommend you to work in a co-workspace, a library, a café or just in a room where it is possible to leave your desk at the end of the day. Believe us, this will keep your spirit healthy. It will become so easy to leave this work-environment if you are done working. And this creates a wall between working and free-time.
Also, it is important to take enough brakes and heave some time away from your screens. Put your phone and laptop wherever you can not reach it for a couple of hours or even a full day and enjoy the nature!Feeling lonely at your Friday afternoon drinks VS. Stay connected or find remote people around you
It can be quite lonely behind your laptop at 5 on a Friday when people are celebrating the weekend together. Cheers to you. It is super important to stay connected, so you don't get any feelings of loneliness. Stay connected to your colleagues with the communication tools that were discussed before, and make sure you have a Zoom meeting occasionally to check up on each other.
Besides that, can it be really interesting to find remote people around you. There are so many Facebook groups that can help you out here! Almost each digital nomad destination has its own Facebook, where you can connect with like-minded others. You can also use Bumble friends to look around you or use a special Nomad dating app like Nomad Soulmates.Change the environment all the time VS. Missing a steady environment
If you work remotely, you have the option to change your environment the whole time. This can be so inspiring, but take into account that you can also miss a steady environment or that if you work from home you get sick of working in the same space the whole time, where the walls now just come at you. Make sure that you pick a co-workspace or a nomad-cafe to work, so you are surrounded by people with the same goals. Platforms like Google Workspace, Trello and Notion can help you to have a steady environment digitally.
